I have just come across articles saying number of mobile phone users in India have rose to 929 million. Sources say that Bharti Airtel is still singing millions of people so we can expect 929 digits to change soon. If we count land line holders as well then the total number of telephone subscribers changes 960.90 million.
Yes I have read about that news and I am really surprised with it, I mean the Current Population of India in 2012 is 1.22 billion out of which 960.90 million are having telephone subscriptions, approximately 78 percent of the population. I think by 2020 or sooner we can expect 90 percent of the population to be having wireless subscriptions and line telephone subscriptions.
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) data has mentioned that 8.35 million subscribers have increased between the months of April and may this year. It was 921.02 million in April and with the addition of 8.35 million it reached to 929 million. I am really surprised with the increasing speed of the subscribers.
Below is the list of the subscription as per Network providers I have found:
- Bharti Airtel - 185.3 million
- Idea Cellular - 115.97 million.
- Uninor - 45 million
- Vodafone - 152.5 million
- Aircel - 64.4 million users
- Reliance Communications - 154 million.
- Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) - 97.7 million
- Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) - 5.6 million
I thought that Vodafone was the leading Network provider in India but according to these counts Bharti Airtel is leading with 185.3 million.
