STOP ERROR: 0x00000ED (Windows XP) - please help
I have a problem with a computer I use as a local server.
I get the following stop error message code (in blue screen mode):
_____________________________________________________________
UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME
STOP: 0x000000ED (0x89E3cc08,0xc000009c,0x00000000,0x00000000)
_____________________________________________________________
I can't find any threads with the same problem described.
How do I fix this bug?
Any help is greatfully appreciated.

Re: STOP ERROR: 0x00000ED (Windows XP) - please help
You can try to Repair the volume by following the below methods:
- Start your computer by inserting the Windows startup disks or the Windows installation disk if your computer can start from the CD drive.
- When the Welcome to Setup screen appears, press R to select the repair option.
- If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the Windows installation that you want to access from the Recovery Console.
- Type the administrator password when you are prompted to do this.
- Note If no administrator password exists, press ENTER.
- At the command prompt, on the drive where Windows is installed, type chkdsk /r, and then press ENTER.
- At the command prompt, type exit, and then press ENTER to restart your computer.
- After you repair the volume, check your hardware to isolate the cause of the file system damage.
Re: STOP ERROR: 0x00000ED (Windows XP) - please help
Thank you very much JAMES_11 !!!
It worked out perfectly and the computer is now running once again. Your help is appreciated a lot.
Prior to following your instructions i ran some self tests. The following error was displayed on the screen:
error code 0142
message error code : 2000-01420
message : harddrive 1- self test unsuccessful. Status : 72
Does anyone know if this is a serious problem and is the computer close to termination? Can I rely on it or should I replace it?
Once again thank you so much.
Best regards,
catinrat
Re: STOP ERROR: 0x00000ED (Windows XP) - please help
The error code 2000-01420 that you were getting is related to a bad hard drive and you may want to replace the hardware or backup the drive as soon as you can, so that important data doesnt gets damaged. What is the hard drive make or model that you have and whats your computer specification anyways?

Thanks for the fast reply.
Other computer specification:
Dell Optiplex 360
Pentium(R) Dual-core CPU
E5300 @2.60 GHz
2.59 GHz, 1,98 RAM
I know - old school stuff ;-)

Hi james_911,
Regarding the last bullet: do you have any suggestions as to how I should check the hardware to isolate the cause of the file system damage?

Well, there is no way to repair a hard drive which is giving error code : 2000-01420, and its a sign that sooner or later the hard drive will be dead anyways. Incase if it is in warranty then you can all dell people and ask them for a replacement, if not then backup important data from the hard drive or else once the hard drive becomes un-usable, you will have to spend huge amount of money for recovering the data or so.
