Intel Core Quad Processor Q9650 vs Intel Core Quad Processor Q6600 for EVGA 680i motherboard
I am having a EVGA 680i motherboard along with an overclocked Core2Duo E6600 @ 3ghz and the cooling system in my case is Corsair H50 but then now I am willing to get a new processor which will work be able to run Battlefield 3, as I have already tested it with the overclocked Core2Duo E6600 @ 3ghz, as far as the choice is concerned I just wanted to know that which one will be the best replacement amongst Intel Core Quad Processor Q9650 and Intel Core Quad Processor Q6600 keeping the motherboard in mind, is there anyone who can help me out with the same??

As far as my experience the EVGA 680i motherboard is just too bad for overclocking with quad cores, I think that a better idea will be getting a cheap P45 based board as well and it will be just worth overclocking with Intel Core Quad Processor Q9650 or Intel Core Quad Processor Q6600, I think probably better with Q9650.
Re: Intel Core Quad Processor Q9650 vs Intel Core Quad Processor Q6600 for EVGA 680i motherboard
I have checked about the same and have found this:
- q6600 65nm 8mn L2 cache
- q9650 45nm 12mb L3 cache
so here I think that At 45nm the Q9650 will run cooler as compared to that of Q6600 but then as 9650 is having more cache mem I think that there will be a big difference.
Re: Intel Core Quad Processor Q9650 vs Intel Core Quad Processor Q6600 for EVGA 680i motherboard
I have used Intel Core Quad Processor Q9650 with ASUS 680i and I don’t know why but when I had bought them and they were new they used to not get recognizes and I was having a lot of issues but then later I switched to 780i and now I am able to overclock them as well. If you want then you can check out SB cpu/mobo, ddr3 RAM as they are quite cheap now:
- Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 3000 BX80623I52500K- Now: $219 approximately
- G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL- Now: $46 approximately
- MSI P67A-G43 (B3) LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard- $94.99 approximately.

Even I will like to add that I have used evga 680i with a q6600 and trust me I just had a hard time getting it to run at stock speed but then later I just sold the board and got a P5K Deluxe and now I am not having any issues in overclocking the same, so as some others have already mentioned, even I think that getting a different board for that q6600 will be a better choice.
Re: Intel Core Quad Processor Q9650 vs Intel Core Quad Processor Q6600 for EVGA 680i motherboard
I used to have the below in my system:
- x38 motherboard
- Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450
- AMD 6850
I was not having any issues in playing Battlefield 3 on high along with the processor clocked at 3ghz @ 1920x1200. 30-40fps but then I was willing to try out the same on ultra and that’s the reason I have got 6850 now and I have overclocked the same to 3.4ghz. And now I am really happy as I am getting 60fps on multiplayer on ultra with AA off. I don’t think that there will be much improvement with 2 more cores and the 8800 card, so I think that getting a q9450 and x3350s will be cheaper and a better choice as compared to q9650s.
