Safe vcore for Core i7-3960X
It seems to me that my Core i7-3960X Extreme Edition needs at least 1,44 vcore in order to run stable @4.8ghz. It should be watercooler and temps are about 70C. Do you think that 1,44v is a bit high for running a computer 24/7? Looking for a good advice?
Re: Safe vcore for Core i7-3960X
AS far as I know that the safe voltage would be as same as the voltage which you can see in Sandy Bridge processors. But it can be little bit more since the name suggests that it is an Extreme Edition and silicom should be better. You can run this processor between 1.4-1.45v vcore voltage. So I think that you are pretty well with this value.
Re: Safe vcore for Core i7-3960X
I think that the 1.44v is a tad high. You are telling that you are running that system for 24/7. So if you want to get years out from the processor, better lower the voltage. But still I think that now you are fine with this voltage since you have watecooled system. However if you really looking forward to run the processor at 4.8 GHz, you could try offset voltage, C states, and Speedstep enabled. These things will help you to cut down on the time. My processor is at 5 GHz and running rock solid.
Re: Safe vcore for Core i7-3960X
Many are telling that 1.44V is bad but I don’t think so. In my opinion I think that 1.47V should be fine. In my case once I had a 990x die at 1.56V after two months. It was folding 24/7. The problem was it was pretty hot and it didn’t watercooled system. So it is hard to tell that whether it was the cause of temps or vcore.
Re: Safe vcore for Core i7-3960X
At idle the consumption of Intel i7-3960X with just 138W, 20W to take apart each find the other two CPUs. Bringing the frequency to 4 GHz, we remember that did not require an increase of the operating voltage for any CPU. We conclude that the efficiency of the Intel CPU, even with the model i7-3960X not only confirms what has been seen in performance. We have a good efficiency in relation to its excellent performance. The overclocking shows instead a very high consumption which implies the adoption of appropriate cooling system, but also to a power supply system very carefully made.
Re: Safe vcore for Core i7-3960X
As far as I know that the core i7-3960X as well as Core i7-3930K CPU does not need any kind of BCLK adjustments. These processors are very good at overclocking and can be easily overclocked. You just have to increase their clock frequency multiplier. Other than this these processors will also allow you to change the multiplier used for the system memory frequency. Due to this LGA 2011 systems may fall between DDR3-1067 in addition to DDR3-2666 with 266 MHz increment.
