Re: Windows 7 Reports vprot.exe Crash due to AVG 2012 update
I would suggest that you better create a process crash dump; if you do not know it then you follow the following steps to do it
- Download the Debugging Tools for Windows 32-bit or 64-bit version
- Click the Download Debugging Tools from the Windows SDK link
- Click the Download button on the next page.
- Run the downloaded Windows SDK installation package
- Follow the installation wizard.
- Select only the Debugging Tools for Windows check box in the Installation Options window (clear all other check boxes).
- Finish the installation wizard (it may take several minutes depending on your Internet connection speed; about 70 megabytes will be downloaded).
- Launch the command line as administrator and run the following command
- "C:\Program Files\Debugging Tools for Windows (x86)\windbg.exe" –I for 32-bit
- "C:\Program Files\Debugging Tools for Windows (x64)\windbg.exe" –I for 64 bit
If you follow all these steps then it will register the Debugging Tools for Windows as the default post-mortem debugger on your system. When you are done with the above steps then do the following method
- Restart your computer after the default debugger is registered.
- Create a temp folder on your C: drive (C:\temp\).
- Induce the crash again.
- When a WinDbg console window appears,
- please type the following command (including the dot in the beginning):
- .dump /ma C:\temp\crash.dmp (A crash.dmp dump file will be created in the above mentioned folder)
- Please compress the dump file(s) created and provide us with the archive.
Re: Windows 7 Reports vprot.exe Crash due to AVG 2012 update
When I was doing all the above steps then I was not getting “Launch the command line as administrator and run the following command” option and while during the crash again “.dump /ma C:\temp\crash.dmp” it has not called for crash as I am not having the admin privileges. So what should I do now?

Your account is not having the Administrator rights due to which you are not able to get the method working. You better login with admin and try the method again which will worked for you.
