Does Rage is able to play without Steam?

I purchase Rage and by no means in a million years considerated impressive companies like Bethesda and identification which makes your game requires Steam to register to play. I completely hate steam. Words cannot state how much I hate it.

Is there any means around this or am I throw away the game and open as I already removed plastic and I cannot return it? I refuse to play any game forces me to download and use steam.

I hate everything about Steam. It's bloatware that consumes tons of system resources required to be online to play, makes automatic updates (I'll do my own updates, thank you very much), is 100 times longer to load games, the games are left is a all around the ****ing program and the idea even crappier. The steam is, was and always will be total garbage. I wish I had read the case before opening it. Now I cannot go back and really do not want to install Steam. Steam may have improved in recent years as the Half-Life 2 days, but horrible.
