Schannel Error causing laptop to freeze
My laptop keeps freezing, and whatever audio is playing gets stuck on what sounds like a robotic half second loop. I either have to shut the laptop down, or press the power button, wait a few minutes and then the laptop will start to shut down, and I can cancel the shutdown process and carry on until it happens again.
I have logged all the times this has happened and I have found that each time there is a Schannel error, Event ID 36888, with either error state being 10, or 1203.
I'm running Windows 7 Professional and the error only happens when I am staying in my flat, connected to my 50mb/s cable internet. The error does not happen at home when connected to my 2mb/s broadband.
The error mainly happens when I play music or when watching videos. However, it can happen at other times like when I am just browsing files.
Please help, it is making my laptop unusable.
Thanks.
Re: Schannel Error causing laptop to freeze
I would like to tell you that SChannel stands for secure channel. Schannel is making use of the TLS for security encryption. To get that resolved, you will have to follow the steps below.
- First of all open the Internet Explorer.
- Now click on the Tools.
- Select Internet Options.
- Choose advanced Tab.
- Scroll down the security list and uncheck Use TLS options.
- Finally click on OK.
Once you are done with this then restart your computer and see if you are getting the same thing or not.
Re: Schannel Error causing laptop to freeze
I tried that, the laptop still freezes, but there are no more schannel errors in the event viewer. I've keep taking logs of the time it crashes, and comparing it to events. I've also noticed that this event keeps appearing sometimes when it crashes:
Code:
Log Name: System

also, it usual that this always appears as well:
Event 7036 - The Windows Error Reporting Service service entered the running state.
It''s only happening when i'm watching videos or listening to music, occasionally it does it when there is no sound playing. I'll upload a video of the crash now.
Re: Schannel Error causing laptop to freeze
See event 7036 marks a service which is performing certain tasks at start up and they stop on their own. So a event is recorded when the service enters the running state.
Also the Event id that you are getting is event id 12. This kind of event id usually occurs when you have forcefully removed any external hardware from your laptop. without clicking the safely remove hardware option.
so as such what i can suggest is that you can do a bios update from the manufacturers website and see if there is any difference.
