File Associations of Office 2007 do not work with Office 2010
Hello, I installed Microsoft Office 2010 from net. I still have 2007 Office installed which is running along with 2010 due to virtualization. But when I try to click on my 2007 OneNote notebook, it has no program association with it. So, I use Open With, and see no choice for Office 2010. Next. I browser it to its location, but I cannot find the .exe file of the Office 2010 so that I can open the file. Similarly, there is no association for .docx and .xlsx too. Is there an option to associate these files of 2007 with Office 2010? Why is it not showing me the .exe files?
Re: File Associations of Office 2007 do not work with Office 2010
his one is for Windows XP.
1. Go to Start->Control Panel->Programs ->Programs & Feature.
2. Look for Microsoft Office 2010 in the list of application
3. If it is listed just change the ‘Open With’ option with Office and Click continue.
4. Click tick at the bottom and select it to always use this option for opening.
Now, you will permanently use the association of Office 2010 for the files you are having.

Don’t reply if you have not understood the question correctly. The question clearly says tht he tried your steps but he cannot open it as when he browses he cannot find any program or .exe file of Office. This is present in Office 2010 only because of virtualization. Due to this all the files of Office 2010 are present in a separate virtual space separate from the file system. I don’t know the solution to this but I know the problem is because of this. And you can run more than one version of Office though, so of you do not find a way to find the .exe just find the .exe of Office 2007 and open the file the same old way. That’s the best solution I can give.
Re: File Associations of Office 2007 do not work with Office 2010
As mentioned above, the problem is with virtualization, so you will have to change the handler for it. Just follow the steps given below:
* Open File Manager and navigate the file which is OneNote.
* Right click the file (eg. doc) and select Properties.
* Select ‘Open with Change’ from the General tab.
* Change ''Microsoft Office 2010 Component'' to “Microsoft Office Client Virtualization Handler”.
Re: File Associations of Office 2007 do not work with Office 2010
The Click-To-Run the new type of installation type of Microsoft has become the default setup and installs half of the suite and keeps half for later. So, that may be a problem, so you just install the MSI-based setup download and switch to it and download Office 2011 again if you did not solve it by the above method.
