I wanted to know which kind of internet connection do you having? I mean to say do you having wired or Wireless connection. I recommend that you should use both the wireless as well as Wired internet connection to get the requirement of yours. so you should try the thing which I have mentioned over here I am hoping that it would be useful to fix the matter of yours.
Re: ‘Steam needs to be online to update’ error message on Steam
Looking at the problem which you have mentioned over here I am suspecting that there is an issue with the Firewall which you have installed on the computer. I think Firewall which you have installed on the computer might be blocking the router or some of the ports. I recommend that you should disable the Firewall on the computer of yours and see whether it is making any difference in the situation or not.
Re: ‘Steam needs to be online to update’ error message on Steam
Well I was having the same problem which you have mentioned over here. I have done following thing and after doing the same I have resolved the issue of mine. You have to look for the folder named Steam into <user>/Library/Application Support. You have to delete the same from the computer of yours. so try the same I am hoping that the solution which I have mentioned over here would be useful to you.
Re: ‘Steam needs to be online to update’ error message on Steam
I think there is an issue with the router which you are using. Well I recommend that you have to restart the router and see you are getting the issue. If still there is an issue then I recommend that you have to do port forwarding on the router of yours. I am hoping that you will be able to fix the matter of yours after doing port forwarding you will be able to resolve the matter of yours.
Re: ‘Steam needs to be online to update’ error message on Steam
Well looking at the matter I am suggesting that you should simply install the latest version of Steam on the computer of yours. you can get the same from the official website. You should uninstall the Steam from the computer of yours and then you should try to install the latest version of Steam. Once you have done you should restart the computer and try to launch the Steam and see whether it is working or not.
Re: ‘Steam needs to be online to update’ error message on Steam
This is quite a painful problem with no apparent cause, but here is how I fixed it:
You open a terminal and do the following:
cd /
cd applications
cd steam.app
cd contents
cd macos
./steam.sh
This runs the download cycle. But it will still fail. What you get here is the addresses of the files it is trying to download.
You then download the following manually:
http://cdn.store.steampowered.com/pu...4e2c8a68f15a67
http://cdn.store.steampowered.com/pu...2c22157733e8fd
http://cdn.store.steampowered.com/pu...9a4fc1265160ee
http://cdn.store.steampowered.com/pu...6feb57c9c91929
http://cdn.store.steampowered.com/pu...898c04c68c35be
http://cdn.store.steampowered.com/pu...e90432c9fd7f4e
One called Skins should have automatically generated.
Now navigate to the steam application in finder, right click on it. Select show package contents. Navigate to MACOS\Packages. Now copy and paste the manual downloads.
When you run the application now it should automatically unpack the packages and run Steam.
This worked for me after playing around for a longgggg time.
