Hi I can help you out with your problem, but can you please answer some of my questions so that I can help you better. Did you have any older bios installed on your laptop before installing the new bios? As it may be the bios problem due to which you are not able to boot it up and you getting grub rescue. Or have you tried updating grub?

Re: How to boot lenovo G550?
Ok thanks for giving the information. When you had reinstalled the Mint, have you also re-installed the grub? Or was it available from the earlier install? And while installing you had replaced the older version first or you had directly replaced it? And finally, did you create MSDos file systems? Linux needs ext2 or better.
Re: How to boot lenovo G550?
Just follow the below procedure and see if it works.
• Try Booting your computer with Ubuntu CD
• Now open the terminal window.
• Type sudo grub there and
• Now type "find /boot/grub/stage1".
• Now you will receive a response like "(hd1,0)".
• Follow the lines that your computer shows,
• Now type "root (hd1,0)", or what your hard disk + boot partition
numbers are for Ubuntu.
• Now type "setup (hd1)" and install GRUB to MBR.
• And Quit grub by pressing "quit" button.
• Now Reboot and remove the bootable CD.
