Re: Backtrack 5 usb boot stuck at wallpaper screen before login
I was also facing the similar problem with new backtrack version backtrack 5 I don’t know what application you used. I used Uneetbootin and Lili USB creator and both worked for me. I believe that you must be supposed to try it once more. Moreover make sure that the MD5 Hashes match. Go to the Directory the ISO Is.
Windows md5sum -c filename.md5
Re: Backtrack 5 usb boot stuck at wallpaper screen before login
Well I give it a shot if I can help you. Try using usb live (i did use that lessons and works very well with me so with what I’m saying continue from the beginning. formatting your USB and install BT5 again and also try to check if your system can run backtrack 5.make a note of: I use Backtrack 5 GNOME 32 bit iso, so if we're not well-matched then try to wait for the experts. Hope this will clear your doubts if any further help you required just let me know.
Re: Backtrack 5 usb boot stuck at wallpaper screen before login
I am having the same difficulty. I used Unetbootin, live Linux and even a tried live cd. I can select which mode I want then some loading, a splash screen followed by a black screen for me. Got it to fill on my Linux box (now a dual boot w/ Backtrack 5). USB works great when run as VM vitualbox. Just can't get live cd or usb to work from boot. . Hope this will clear your doubts if any further help you required just let me know.
Re: Backtrack 5 usb boot stuck at wallpaper screen before login
Now I have the same problem. I think we are not considering a login window for a several reasons.
First, I found unetbootin put the ISO on the USB a bit better than the Creator made Lili.
Second, I was in the splash screen just write the name and password and startx worked for me.
On root hit enter
toor and press enter
startx and press enter
Then I had the four characters seeking oriental and the desktop.
Another note is that I found ctrl + shift + esc seemed to switch between the welcome screen and a black screen. I do not know what this means or if it helps.
Re: Backtrack 5 usb boot stuck at wallpaper screen before login
In starting I was getting stuck at wallpaper not at login screen and now I’m getting black screen I plugged my live usb and I was able to get to the logon screen root@root. However now i am getting a black screen after "startx". MD5 hashes match up. Tried Uneetbootin but got further with Lili USB creator.
Im not able to figure out the exact problem. Might be my backtrack 5 copy is corrupt or there is some issue with my hardware compatibility.
Re: Backtrack 5 usb boot stuck at wallpaper screen before login
I'm having the same issues with the liveCD burned onto a DVD. MD5 hash checks out fine. In debug mode, it shows that the system is hanging on system-tools-backends. when booting into system default mode, the screen hangs on the wallpaper for backtrack 5. For the LiveCD, for anyone experiencing issues, the login/password is not root/toor. it's root + (blank password). Once the screen freezes, i can hit CTRL+ALT+F3 for the terminal window, login, then have had a little progress by typing in the following command: "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" then typing "startx" I get the GUI interface to pop up (which comes up as KDE Backtrack 4r2 even though the DVD is Backtrack 5 gnome), and am able to use the keyboard, but have no mouse control. I've only been at it for about 10 minutes, but instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, i thought i'd get on google to see what I could come up with as I'm a novice at using linux. I just want it to run the liveCD without it hanging or freezing. If anybody reads this and has any input, please leave comments/suggestions, thanks!
