As close to 1080p/Blu-ray since you might get?

HDMI will tend to democratize on DVD players, although it is not strictly necessary, it will provide a quality at least equal and probably better on High Definition televisions through the upscaler which is responsible for transforming an image Standard High Definition. I would believe that it’s the Xbox's work to output the DVD statistics next to its unique resolution (720x480 in the majority cases), and it’s the TV's situation to upscale it toward the TV's maximum resolution.

It will not be as excellent as an accurate HD picture except the 360 and your television will work to upscale your DVD as most excellent as achievable. Re: Xbox 360 DVD Upscaling to 1080p
Absolutely the Xbox 360 can upscale ordinary DVD movies, except only if you’re utilizing the VGA otherwise HDMI connection. For the duration of the supposed “Spring Dashboard Update” Microsoft allowed DVD upscaling in excess of the VGA connection — plus upscaling above HDMI has been present ever since the opening of the HDMI AV cable — therefore if you’re utilizing VGA otherwise HDMI you’ll observe movies in whatsoever resolution you’ve situate inside the dashboard. On the other hand, this is barely above VGA otherwise HDMI. Furthermore, by Fall Dashboard Update, average DVD movies will be up-scaled toward 1080p on screens that support it, yet again merely above the VGA connection otherwise HDMI connection.
Re: Xbox 360 DVD Upscaling to 1080p
Joystick reports new details on the planned features of the Xbox 360 software that will allow the vision to 1080p. With the component you can view the games at 1080p upscaled or in native resolution (provided that support it), but you cannot see the HD-DVD at 1080p (as I thought I already mentioned in the comments) because of AACS. Instead, using a VGA cable would not meet limitation, could not only see the HD-DVD and games to 1080p but upscaling DVDs. Still await further official news from Microsoft.
