Windows 7 x64 shows 3.12 GB RAM usable from the 8GB
I have recently installed Windows 7 x64 on my desktop. I have installed 8 GB RAM on my computer. It shows 3.12 GB of RAM is usable into system properties and into Task Manager. Why is this happening so? Whether it was happening due to BIOS settings or some other issue? I am unable to figure out with this situation. Can anyone give me idea on this situation? I will really thankful to you. Thanks in advance.

I was also having the same problem with Windows 7 32 bit. I have 8 GB RAM installed on my desktop but it was showing that 3.50 GB of RAM is usable. My mother board is Gigabyte X58A-UD7. Can anyone help me out from this situation? I had read the lots of forums but there is nothing that I can apply to get rid out from this. I am waiting for your reply. You response will be highly appreciated.

It may possible due to BIOS settings on your computer. I think there is compatibility with new BIOS. You can disable the BIOS update. Now you should go for msconfig. Now go for boot into msconfig. Here you have to select Advanced options. Now make sure that the maximum memory option is unchecked. Just try it know and let me know whether it was worked for you or not? Wish you all the best.
Re: Windows 7 x64 shows 3.12 GB RAM usable from the 8GB
I know a solution that you may apply to fix your problem. I think in the BIOS settings Memory Remap feature is disabled in to your computer. Make sure that Memory Remap feature should be enable in order to use 8 GB RAM. It worked for me since I was facing the same problem that you had already mentioned above. So check into BIOS. For your kind information you can enter into BIOS settings by pressing F2 or Del key after booting the computer.
Re: Windows 7 x64 shows 3.12 GB RAM usable from the 8GB
In order to use 8 GB RAM you must have 64 bit CPU in your computer since 32 bit CPU are unable to address large memory. So finally it avoids the usage of the extra RAM and displays as unused into system property. Also it is essential that Operating you have installed on your hard disk should be of the 64 bit so it can use the entire 8GB RAM. I hope above mentioned information will guide to select CPU and OS for you.
