Successor task starts on same day predecessor task ends
Hi there,
I've noticed the start date on my tasks which have a Finish to Start relationship with their predecessors, start on the same date the predecessor task ends.
eg.
Task Nm Duration Start Finish pred resource
task 1 1 day Mon 11/10/10 Tue 12/10/10 person 2
task 2 1 day Tue 12/10/10 Tue 12/10/10 1 person 2
task 3 4 days Wed 13/10/10 Mon 18/10/10 2 person 2
task 4 2 days Mon 18/10/10 Wed 20/10/10 3 person 2
what I want is for the sucessor task to start the day after the predecessor ends
e.g
Task Nm Duration Start Finish pred resource
task 1 1 day Mon 11/10/10 Mon 11/10/10 person 2
task 2 1 day Tue 12/10/10 Tue 12/10/10 1 person 2
task 3 4 days Wed 13/10/10 Mon 18/10/10 2 person 2
task 4 2 days Tue 19/10/10 Wed 20/10/10 3 person 2
Any idea's ?
Thanks
Re: Successor task starts on same day predecessor task ends
You need to check out a couple of things first, are there resource(s) assigned to the sucessor task? Do they have any non-working time in their calendars? Under Tools>Options on the calculation page is your calculation set to automatic? Is the time from between the tasks set as non working in the project calendar? Hope these ideas help. Let us know how you get along.
Re: Successor task starts on same day predecessor task ends
That can be due to improper task dependency. When you start a project execution the project life is determined on its own. It is essential that you must go ahead with proper planing before beginning. Or else there can be complicated issues later on. For more reference I am giving you a link that offer proper details on choosing the correct type of dependency. So just checkout the article once.

You can use Microsoft Project more properly if you are able to understand how task work in it. How to configure duration and go ahead with managing task dependencies. It is not possible to paste everything here in detail. There is a link available which everything properly mentioned. You can on that basis configure the task back again.
