Re: JRE and firefox problem
Hello,
If the normal installation is not working then install it from the site Java.com (self extracting). Have you tried to install sun-java6-plugin? It is what is installed on my laptop and java works fine.
Code:
"Sudo apt-get install sun-java6-plugin"
This will install all needed packages.
Re: JRE and firefox problem
In root console, I typed
Then I followed the instructions at java.com, I changed the permission of the file I downloaded to make it executable. Enter:
Code:
chmod a + x jre-1_5_0_10-linux-i586-rpm.bin
I started the installation process. I typed:
Code:
./jre-1_5_0_10-linux-i586-rpm.bin
Then the license agreement appeared, I validated by "yes". Then I run the RPM command at the terminal to install packages. Enter:
Code:
rpm-iv jre-1_5_0_10-linux-i586.rpm
But still this is not working for me.
Re: JRE and firefox problem
Apparently you have installed the rpm, but did you do this step:
Code:
ln-s / usr/java/jre1.5.0_06/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so / usr / lib / firefox / plugins
It is to tell Firefox where you have installed java so it can be used as plugins. Careful to change depending on your version of java and your installation directory of firefox, do not forget to check that java is enabled in your Firefox: Edit> Preferences. Under the Content category, select Enable Java.

Re: JRE and firefox problem
Ok, navigates konqueror to verify that your path
Code:
"/ Usr / bin / mozilla-firefox / firefox / plugins"
is correct (it exists). change your line accordingly
Code:
"Ln-s / usr/java/jre1.5.0_10/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so / usr / bin / mozilla-firefox / firefox / plugins"
you're very close to the end, it surely will work
Code:
"/ usr / bin / mozilla-firefox / plugins"
but check well in konqueror
Re: JRE and firefox problem
I typed where is firefox
and I get:
Code:
firefox: / usr / bin / firefox / etc / firefox.cfg
Note, I had already typed "which mozilla-firefox" in order to know where this software (/ usr / bin / mozilla-firefox)
Re: JRE and firefox problem
In fact in / usr / bin / firefox is not installed there ... but normally it's an alias (or shortcut) to your software. In this way it is accessible from anywhere and from any other software, you know where your firefox is really installed by one:
Code:
file / usr / bin / firefox
