Re: Redirect/Popups/XP Security Tool Virus
I dont think that McAfee is a recommended antivirus that can remove any kind of infection that can affect the system. According to me, the best rated antivirus is AVG because it has the ability to remove infections like trojans, worms and all other kinds of virus. So, uninstall McAfee as soon as possible because keeping 2 antivirus in the system can lead to conflicts. Run a full system scan with AVG and remove all the unhealed infections that are detected.
Re: Redirect/Popups/XP Security Tool Virus
The upgradation of the McAfee antivirus that you have done has lead the infections to gain entry into the computer. I think that you do not have a firewall installed in your system, otherwise you would have been alerted about the same. There is a default Windows Firewall available, that just needs to be started. If you are uncomfortable with the same, then you can get any third party firewall in its place.
Re: Redirect/Popups/XP Security Tool Virus
Boot scan is a technique that scans the system when the infections are inactive. It takes place before the startup of the operating system. Thus, the infections cannot be active at this time. This scan is perfect for your situation.
As all the antivirus do not have this feature, you need to install Avast antivirus. Make sure that you update the database of the antivirus, so that all the signatures of the new infections will be added in it.
Re: Redirect/Popups/XP Security Tool Virus
The above technique of boot scan can be implemented with a built-in method available, even with any well updated antivirus that you have. For this you need to start the computer in the safe mode and after that, start the scanning. It is the same method as boot scan. You will get this option of safe mode only by pressing F8 when the computer is started.
