Disable automatic synchronization
1. If you have an iPod or iPhone connected to your computer, disconnect it.
2. Go to ITunes Preferences> Devices.
3. Select the option to "Do not allow automatic synchronization of iPods and iPhones".
4. Connect your iPod or iPhone and see if that has solved the problem.

To remove Itunes Error code 42404, Open Safari. (If you do not have it installed, do it for this purpose. On a Windows computer: in the menu EditionSelect Empty Cache. Note: If you do not see the Edit menu in Safari for Windows, you may need to show the menu bar by clicking the gear icon in the upper right of the Safari window and choosing Show menu bar. Quit Aperture and see if that fixes the problem.

Try Renaming the folder SC Info
1. Quit iTunes.
2. Delete the SC Info folder
3. Start iTunes and see if that fixes the problem.

Create new iTunes preferences. Quit iTunes, move the following files to the desktop iTunes preferences:
* C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunesPrefs.xml
* C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunesPrefs.xml

If the problem is still not solved, try the following steps, to remove Error code 42404 :
- Quit iTunes.
- Log on as a new admin user testing.
- Open iTunes and try syncing, buy, download or make any move that is causing problems when the original user was connected.
- If the problem persists, you log the admin user and log on as the original user.
- Start iTunes and see if that fixes the problem.
If the problem is solved with the new user but not with the original, try to follow the above steps with the original user the new user or use as a temporary alternative.
