What are the advantages and disadvantages of Virtual Machine Hosting

Hi,

I am planing to host my site. The only option available to is virtual dedicated server, and dynamic dedicated server. One of my friend told me that virtual dedicated server is good. So can someone explain me what are the advantages and disadvantages of Virtual Machine Hosting ??

Having a website is good. But the hosts - even paying - sometimes impose heavy constraints:

• You can usually use that php / mysql
• You do not have access to the web server logs, or logs to mysql
• MySQL Access restricted (it must go through phpMyAdmin)
• Unable to install applications of your choice
• Inability to pages or services on other ports than port 80
• Impossibility (usually) have a HTTPS site.

Host a website at home gives total freedom, but there are constraints:

• It must leave your computer on 24/24 basis
• The upstream (upload) is pathetic, so your site will be slow. (Example: 100 kb / second flow amount at Free with Mega offers 24-bit).
• Poorly secured website = your own machine is cracked.

It gives you access to a Xen virtual machine placed on a big server and a high speed line (This virtual machine behaves as a complete computer). This virtual server has a certain amount of RAM and hard drive and a dedicated IP address. You install the operating system of your choice above (Debian, Suse, Ubuntu, Fedora ...) You have root access on the server.

It is seen that most webmasters start your website hosting in a shared hosting server, especially since the shared web hosting plan requires a small fee compared to the most powerful Virtual Private Server (VPS), semi -Dedicated server hosting, or dedicated hosting server. It is with good reason, because at first, these webmasters are trying to settle in this great internet.

VPS Advantages

Safety : From the virtual server is not possible to access resources on the primary server.
