Compaq Presario 2700 does not connect to Wireless network
Hello there, I have been using Compaq Presario 2700 laptop which had Windows XP operating system installed on it. Recently I upgraded the operating system on the laptop to Windows 7 and from that day I am not able to connect to the wireless network. Wireless internet is provided by Dlink wireless router. I am not a networking person and hence cannot figure out what is causing such problem. Therefore if any of you experts know why Compaq Presario 2700 does not connect to Wireless network then please help. Thanks in advance.
Re: Compaq Presario 2700 does not connect to Wireless network
First check if the router is configured properly or not. If the router is not configured properly then the devices which are connected to it using Wireless connection will not be able to access all the resources of the network. Therefore you will have to configure the router properly so that the laptop connects to the router. Contact your ISP and get the required settings for configuring the router. Login to the router and open the configuration page. Configure the router according to the settings provided by the ISP. Save the configuration and then reboot the router. Check if the laptop is able to connect to the router or not.
Re: Compaq Presario 2700 does not connect to Wireless network
I would suggest you to check the drivers which are installed for the network adapter. As you have upgraded the operating system on your laptop, you will have to install the drivers again. To check if the drivers for the network adapter are installed and working properly on the computer, go to the device manager and highlight the installed network adapter. If there are any caution signs, then follow the troubleshooting procedure. After troubleshooting procedure check if the laptop connects to the router or not. If the laptop does not connect then try and upgrade the drivers for the network adapter.
Re: Compaq Presario 2700 does not connect to Wireless network
Windows 7 has lot of compatibility issues with many of the manufacturers of the network card. If the device which is installed on the computer is not compatible with Windows 7 operating system then you will not be able to use it properly. Because of this incompatibility issue, drivers for lot of devices do not work under Windows 7. This compatibility issue was later solved by releasing patches and Windows updates. Try and update the Windows installation on your computer and then see if the problem persists or not. You can also try and download different patches which are available for Windows 7 on the official website.
Re: Compaq Presario 2700 does not connect to Wireless network
The default IP version of Windows 7 operating system is IPv6 while the default IP version of Windows XP operating system is IPv4. As previously the installed operating system on your computer was Windows XP, the router must be configured to use IPv4 IP address and hence the laptop is not able to connect to the network. Try disabling the IPv6 support of Windows 7 and then try to connect the laptop to the router. To disable the IPv6 support, Open the network connection wizard and go to lan properties. Now select TCP/IP properties and then remove the check mark from the option which says "Enable IPv6". Save and apply the settings and check if you are able to connect the laptop to the router.
