Synaptic package manager error
When I try to install a package manager program, I get the following error:
Quote:
An error occurred, please run Package Manager from the right-click menu or apt-get in a terminal to see what is wrong. The error message was: ' Error: Opening the cache (E: Type '30016' is not known on line 1 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/karmic-partner.list, E:The list of sources could not be read.)'This usually means that your installed packages have unmet dependencies
Do I have to put in console something here? if so what do you have to get?
thanks for any help.
Re: Synaptic package manager error
Synaptic is just a graphical frontend to manipulate apt.
You have to run as su(substitute user), the following:
dpkg --configure -a
I have installed sudo : sudo dpkg --configure -a
But like any assistant "graphic" configuration, it is easy to use, but also less powerful than using apt or aptitude to coat, and sometimes, instead of repairing things, doesn't works. It thus has the "ease" of use of distros like Ubuntu.
Re: Synaptic package manager error
Thanks for your help, but in more detail Errors were encountered while processing:
Quote:
ttf-installer-mscorefonts
I get that error. Any idea about this one?
Re: Synaptic package manager error
One solution would be removing the package ttf-mscorefonts-set up and install the Liberation Fonts.
that's the easiest way to fix this or is there another way to do this?
Re: Synaptic package manager error
Ubuntu looks when you try to update the repository list to see where to go to find files. One of their list is not in the correct format, so Ubuntu is complaining. Go to the main menu and select software sources or Synaptic, Settings, Repositories, Other Software/third. Uncheck/deselect the one that ends with "karmic partner". Then press the "Reload" in Synaptic/Software Sources menu.
You should be able to run the updates. Once you click "Reload", must also be able to re-select the "partner" checkbox, which will reactivate the list with the proper format.
Re: Synaptic package manager error
Close Synaptic. In a terminal window, type su, and then enter the root password.
then type
dpkg --purge --force-depends python-uno
Wait until it gets done.
type
dpkg --configure --pending
Open synaptic, and finish what you were doing. And you do not select things you do not need it now. Dpkg have a tendency to choke if installing 1500 packages at once. However, it allows Synaptic to install the necessary dependencies for the packages you select.
