Re: How to install and configure Cacti on Windows
There are several software programs to monitor network. But they are mostly paid. Therefore, we must find an application at a lower cost to the company, while having a reliable and highly efficient operation in the information sought. Cacti is a complete network graphing solution designed to harness the power of RRDTool 's data storage and graphing functionality. It automatically presents them in graphical form available from a web page. It also has a plugin system that makes it easy to use and highly modular.
It is thus possible to couple it to GLPI to have a management tool for the park. Reading the chart and data mining is much less pleasant.Due to the many functions of cacti, a user based management tool is built in so you can add users and give them rights to certain areas of cacti. This would allow someone to create some users that can change graph parameters, while others can only view graphs. Each user also maintains their own settings when it comes to viewing graphs.
Re: How to install and configure Cacti on Windows
To install Cacti must log on as administrator on the server. Verify that no version of MySQL or PHP are installed, then install IIS via "Add Windows Components". Here is the step by step process of doing the same:-
- Run the Cacti setup by double clicking.
- Check all, since it is the server and one is administrator, so we have the components of our database, configuration files for Cacti. GetIF is a software access to the MIB, among others, for switches and routers
- During the procedure, especially not to install Cacti in a location other than C
- Once installation is complete, restart the computer.
Now you need to set the Scheduled Task. Opening the scheduled task, it checks the information entered. Secondly, planning is defined, ie for a period of 24h, the task is repeated every 5 minutes. To do this we must go to the tab and then advanced planning.

You may also need to configure the SNMP service on the server and work stations. As you might be aware that SNMP service is not always installed by default in services. To do this with the installation CD for positions in win2000 and win2000 server, it installs the service by Add Remove Windows Components. It selects management tools and analysis. To know about our server we will have all the MIB of our machines, while on the client machines we will be only one.
To do this, right-click SNMP Service and then Properties. Then, select the Agent tab and tick all the boxes. Finally, the Security tab, click Add ... and enter the name of the MIB for the position. Do not forget to check Accept SNMP packets from any host, so that Cacti can communicate. Thats it. You are done.
