How to prevent NTFS Compression
Hi,
It is necessary to stop compression in order to improve the working speed of Windows Vista. How to do that. Because I had notice a high usage of processor when many of the driver are compressed. How to get a high priority in the context menu. That means to create one for myself. And will increasing the size of disk cache can give me some more improved speed. I am using Windows Vista.
Re: How to prevent NTFS Compression
This trick speeds up your computer by preventing compaction NTFS. Windows, when it is on an NTFS partition, tends to compress some files not used. These files can be compacted when using the cleaning utility (cleanmgr.exe). If this kind of process is useful on almost full hard drive is completely useless on our large hard drives and this helps slow down the computer because these files need to be unpacked when
Re: How to prevent NTFS Compression
First unpack all the files compressed by Windows and to prohibit any future compaction. To proceed, you must restart the computer (in safe mode preferred), close all programs (especially antivirus), go to Start, Run ... and type (or copy paste) COMPACT / U / S / A / I / CF: \ *.* and then click OK. Leave scroll, this should take less than 5 minutes. Once done, simply restart.
Re: How to prevent NTFS Compression
If you are looking to improve the performance of a specific program, like a game for example, this trick will give it a higher priority than others simply by adding an option in the menu. Practical and efficient! Windows gives each process a priority. Plus one has a high priority, plus it has the "right" to seek the processor at the expense of other programs of course.
Re: How to prevent NTFS Compression
In order to create a new option in the contextual menu (the menu that appears when you right click on a program), we're going to use Regedit (Start, Run ..., then type regedit). It must then go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \ exefile \ shell \. Here, we create a subkey that is called High-priority (the name of this key to be used in the context menu). In this new key high-priority, you must create a lock command. So we end up here: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \ exefile \ Shell \ High-priority \ command/
Re: How to prevent NTFS Compression
When you access a file on the hard drive, Windows will never stored this file in the disk cache. When this file is requested again, the OS will consult the cache to see if a copy exists. It it is there then it will be used for the disk access time which is present already. You must have 256MB of RAM minimum. To do this Run regedit (Start, Run and type regedit). Go to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ Session Manager \ Memory Management Create or edit the DWORD value LargeSystemCache by assigning the value 1 (0 is the default). Just then quit regedit, apply the setting to the next startup.
