Follow these steps :
- Open up My Computer
- Right-click on your system hard drive where windows is installed (mostly "C:") and click on Properties
- Uncheck the box at the bottom which says "Allow Indexing Service to"
- Now Click OK, As the files will be removed from memory, it may take some time to finish it so wait for it
Thats it... Doing this can boost your computer speed too... :thumbup1:

Re: Turn Off Indexing Service in Windows XP
By default, this service is set to manual and so it won't start by itself, but when you do a file search or document search or basically just search on your computer, It will ask you this question that if you want to make future searches faster. So you may have enabled it when you have used Search. And yeah, Indexing service makes your computer a bit slower...

Re: Turn Off Indexing Service in Windows XP
Use this code and paste it in notepad :
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\cisvc]
"Start"=dword:00000004
Now save this file with any name but keep its extension as .reg so that it could become a registry file. Double click on it and click yes. Now just reboot the computer... :thumbup1:
