When I tried installing XUbuntu within Windows onto hard disk but after rebooting it directly enters into GRUB command. I have installed it on Internal hard disk but ant able to load on external hard disk. Some one help me out.
Re: Booting Xubuntu off my External HDD
For installing from the external hard disk follow the steps :
1. First boot the live CD (my Xubuntu) that you want to install. After it loads, check whats the name of external hard drive. Type sudo fdisk -l
2. Then choose the “Guided - use entire disk” (as required) option and select the external drive (sdb). When you see the “Ready to install” screen you have to select the “Advanced” button and change the Boot Loader option from the default of (hd0) to (hd1). Then click on install and after installing reboot the computer.
3. In order for you to be able to boot off the external drive, your computer’s BIOS needs to support booting from a USB drive. If it supports then change the boot priority to external USB.
After completing these steps you will able to install from the external hard disk.
Re: Booting Xubuntu off my External HDD
Do installation as Dr. V mentioned. The most important thing to pay attention is to the Advanced button during the installation time. That buttons appears during the installation time. You need to put grub2 in the mbr of the USB drive instead of mbr to hard drive. By default it is in hard drive ,so don't forget to change to USB drive.
