Windows 7 consumes 1.2 GB of RAM when idle
Here is my config
Windows 7 64-bit
Asus p5q pro
Core 2 Duo 8400 @4.0 Ghz
4 GB of RAM
ATi HD 4830 512 MB
2 x 500GB HDD in RAID 0
My pc consumes 1.2 GB of RAM when idle, I started in Safe Mode and then: 966 MB! Its apparently too much. What to do? This is not a virus, safe mode eliminates a lot of cases. The task manager does not give an application that could consume as much memory. I saw some discussion on the Intel P45 chipset, but no solutions. When I install the latest version of the chipset drivers from asus site, he said that the minimum is not required. Then where can I get my problem?
Re: Windows 7 consumes 1.2 GB of RAM when idle
The management of memory is an issue repeatedly addressed. What is the problem? You have 4 GB which the Windows utilizes (services task in the background etc.) I installed 8 GB myself to remain free of 4.4 and it would not operate Windows 7.
Regarding the Intel driver message is normal! Because the latest drivers for P45 are already built into Windows. So update is unnecessary.
Re: Windows 7 consumes 1.2 GB of RAM when idle
This is normal, the management of active memory is different for Windows 7. 4 GB of ram is great for Windows 7, its not a driver that will reduce the number of gigabytes in consumption. It takes lots of memory but who knows when another program needs it.
There's no particular problem with a 64 bit OS the consolidated memory is almost doubled compared to the 32bit version.
Re: Windows 7 consumes 1.2 GB of RAM when idle
OK, so it's normal. thank you. But with a knowledge that has 2GB, it has 750MB of ram "consumed", Windows 7 64-bit too. And I had only 2 GB, 1 week ago, he did not consume less of Ram. The question is why it consumes so much to me, is this the same thing to you.
Re: Windows 7 consumes 1.2 GB of RAM when idle
RyanInt, stop looking for problems when there is none. You will just make yourself hate by someone because you do not listen. Removing a memory module and you will see that your consumption will drop. Basically, as you have lots of memory, Windows takes advantage of the ram modules so that your experience is more fluid. It will not trick 1000 loader knowing that you are not at lot of memory.
Your stuff between safe mode and normal mode is bogus. Safe Mode, it loads virtually nothing, no driver. Already we see plainly that you have an ATI card. The ati card drivers is over 100 MB with the control center so if you then added the sound card, network, webcam, etc. Then your problem between 1.2 GB of RAM and 966 MB in safe mode does not exist. On my machine, just by installing the drivers for the equipment and the antivirus, I read a 1.41 GB while yet under XP, it used only 500 MB
