Windows 7 unable to create Restore Point
I have bought a new computer for my mother which i have installed Windows 7 on it...! Now after installing Windows 7 i was trying to create a Restore point on it... But was not able to make it... Does anyone know why it is not possible???? Is there any change in making restore point in Windows 7. Can anyone Help here???
Re: Windows 7 unable to create Restore Point
Follow the following Steps to Create Restore Point
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
- Locate the following registry key:Note Your system registry may not contain the following entry. If it does not, try Method 2.
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\VxDMon
- Change the DelayFirstRstpt value from 1 to 0:
- In the right pane, click DelayFirstRstpt.
- On the Edit menu, click Modify.
- In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
- Restart your computer.
- Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, click System Restore to start the System Restore utility, and then create a restore point.
Re: Windows 7 unable to create Restore Point
I think there is nothing but you require to update your Windows... Actually your windows might be out of date or corrupted... Updating to the new version will solve your problem... Hopefully this is the problem you facing... Try this atleast once...!

Re: Windows 7 unable to create Restore Point
My system was freezing when I was trying to create a restore point.
I couldn't eliminate previous restore points either.
The hanging problem was on the firewall.
I turned off the firewall (PC Tools Firewall Plus, in my case), then turned off and on again the System Restore function, and I was able to create a restore point.
Re: Windows 7 unable to create Restore Point
MrCHRIS - I'm running Windows 7 and it does not have the registry value you specify. So what is Method 2?

Can you check the VSS logs by opening Event Viewer and going to Application and Services Logs
Microsoft
Windows
I also am not able to see the 'Hyper-VSS' folder that I was expecting to direct you to next, so can you check the following folders as they look promising.
- Backup
- Recovery
- Windows Backup
Re: Windows 7 unable to create Restore Point
No file or folder 'Hyper-VSS' located through Applications and Services logs. Even if I find it, what do I do with it? Is this the method 2 referred to in a previous thread? More information, please.

Can you try to re-register VSS binaries and services, first stop the Volume Shadow Copy Service and check if the Restore Point works:
1.Open a command prompt and change to \windows\system32
2.net stop vss
Then register the following dlls and services (be sure you're still in the
windows\system32 directory at your command prompt):
regsvr32 ole32.dll
regsvr32 vss_ps.dll
vssvc /Register
regsvr32 /i swprv.dll
regsvr32 /i eventcls.dll
regsvr32 es.dll
regsvr32 stdprov.dll
regsvr32 vssui.dll
regsvr32 msxml.dll
regsvr32 msxml3.dll
regsvr32 msxml4.dll
