To make your volume louder, You'll need to download a DFX plugin. It also has Dynamic Sound Spectrum Analyzer. It makes your MP3s sound way better. DFX increase your music and sound experience by improving the sound quality and volume level of MP3, Windows Media, Internet radio and other music files. If that didn't increase vloume and if you've already maxed-out the setting in control panel, the only other thing you could do is get new, more powerful speakers.
If a pair of headphones is not loud enough for your listening needs, use an external device to further amplify the original headphone signal. Any audio editing program have a feature called Normalize, you can use this feature. Get Audacity..
MP3Gain does not just do peak normalization, as many normalizers do. Instead, it does some statistical analysis to determine how loud the file actually sounds to the human ear. Also, the changes MP3Gain makes are completely lossless. There is no quality lost in the change because the program adjusts the mp3 file directly, without decoding and re-encoding.

I have a soundmax audio card onboard on my system and I have dual booted my system with Windows XP and Windows 7. Now about the sounds, what I believe is that windows xp doesnt has the required tool to boost up the sound from the soundmax sound options which is placed in the quick icon bar, but when same driver was installed in windows 7 in compatability mode, I noticed a difference in sound options that were provided in the soundmax panel, it had option to boost up the sound level, which would also make the woofer of my 2.1 speaker to distort at maximum level.
