How to replace a cmos battery of laptop
Hi,
I want to know how to replace a cmos battery from a motherboard of a laptop. What are the conditions to determine that the battery is outdated and needs a replacement. Which is the type of battery does the motherboard support. Does each different model use a different battery. What if the battery is not replaced. Does this effect the system performance. Any suggestions really appreciated.

Replacing battery in a laptop will required complete disassemble of the case. You will have to open the laptop front case and then you can see the battery. It is coined shape battery which normally called as lithium battery. This task is easy on desktop pc because as you open the case the motherboard is seen and the battery also. But laptops does not have enough room and they are very complicated to dissemble. If you don't know then better do not open your laptop. Hire any technical person for that. It will not cost you much.

The cmos battery saves up your password and bios settings. If you don't want the battery then still your laptop will work. But you cannot save bios settings which is need while installing windows, you cannot set windows time and password. But other thing will work as normal as it was. To replace the battery you will have to open the entire laptop like remove keyboard, back panel, front panel, etc. Then the cmos chip is visible.

The cmos battery is located on the socket of the motherboard under the keyboard and the speaker panel. If you have complete accessories then you can just unscrew the screws at the corner and remove the lock. The speaker panel can be dragged to the right to remove it. Then remove the cmos battery and get the same one. Take care all models have different type of design and unscrewing process. See the below link for more details.
