Meaning of Polyphonic ringtones The traditional ringtone was in the 440-480 Hz range, but as cellphone usage grew, it became obvious that ringtone differentiation would become important. A polyphonic ring tone can consist of several notes at a time. The first polyphonic ring tones used sequenced recording methods such as MIDI. Such recordings specify what synthetic instrument should play a note at a given time, and the actual instrument sound is dependent upon the playback device. |
Definition of Polyphonic ringtones Polyphonic ringtones can create multiple tones and/or notes simultaneously. Most polyphonic ringtones are stored in MIDI format (MIDI, MIDI 0, or SP-MIDI). Different phones support a different number of simultaneous instruments (chords) anywhere from 4 to 40 or more. Sagem 2.1 and Qualcomm CMX versions 1 and 2 also support polyphonic ringtones. |
