ata-6 interface Hard drive for Dell Laptop
My friend gave me an old Dell Inspiron 8600 Laptop that he bought last year. I found out that it was having only 40gb hard drive space in it. So I thinking of upgrading it and buy a new hard drive. I also found out that it will require a ATA-6 interface hard drive so can anyone suggest me a good ATA-6 interface hard drive for dell laptop? Thank you

I will not recommend you a 7200 RPM drive in a laptop, but rather a drive with a large cache (8MB is nice) and a low seek time. I'm very happy with the Fujitsu MHT2040AH: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822153014

There are also convertors for ATA to SATA, but I don't think they'll fit inside a laptop, sorry. There are ATA drives up to I think 160 Gb capacity though. ATA6 is backwards-compatible with ATA5, ATA4 and ATA3. However, I recommend you a 5400 rpm drive (because of the increased heat and power use) with a big cache, such as this one:

I don't know what's ATA-6 but ATA150 will work fine (probably at ATA100 speed if your motherboard doesn't suport ATA150), however, laptops usually use 2.5" HD are you sure you aren't looking at desktop 3.5" HD?
