Re: need help for upgrading ram
Hey very first let us know what motherboard you have?
See before upgrading the RAM you must know the specification of your Motherboard. IF it supports that much RAM or not?
If you are confident about the motherboard then i must say go for 2gb or 4 gb of RAM. Stick to even number. I don't think 5gb of ram is a nice idea.
I hope this helps.
Re: need help for upgrading ram
What is your Computer Specifications? There are different types of ram support for different types of motherboards. The old boards used to handle DDR1 ram, whereas the new boards of todays generation supports the DDR2 and DDR3 types of rams. So only after knowing your specs we can further discuss which ram is supported by your motherboard.

I too need help in upgrading my RAM
my motherboard is MSI Platinum bought in early 2008.
I have 1GB DDR2 RAm....I want to upgrade it to maybe 4GB or more...
Please suggest good RAM models I can use and the latest price for single 4GB RAMs....Thanks
Re: need help for upgrading ram
if you have MSI P965 Platinum it support upto 8gb also check this before you buy ram http://forums.techarena.in/motherboa...am/1075928.htm . i would suggest you corsair ram this is good for overclocking too.
Re: need help for upgrading ram
Hello rockstarashish!
I got your specifications but since you have intel chipset based motherboard & 2 slots for ram. You can add 1 or 2 gb ram in the other slot or replace your current ram with 2 gb ram in this way you can upgrade to 1X1Gb +1X2Gb = 3gb ram
OR
2X 2gb = 4gb RAM
I would suggest you to read your motherboard manual for its ram su[pport since you have not mentioned your motherboard model & manufacturer. But according to me it must support 4 gb of rm.
Please go for Transcend or Corsair Ram chips. Kingston is also a better chip.
Re: need help for upgrading ram

Re: need help for upgrading ram
Intel D945GCNL Motherboard does not supports 4gb of ram it only supports 2gb ram. See here for more details about the Intel D945GCNL memory support.http://www.intel.com/support/motherb.../CS-026728.htm
Re: need help for upgrading ram
Hey thanks for the model number.
This is a link to the product manual where you can see the specifications of your motherboard.
http://download.intel.com/support/mo...d9846601us.pdf
Quote:
Two 240-pin DDR2 SDRAM Dual Inline Memory Module (DIMM) sockets
• Support for DDR2 667 or DDR2 533 MHz DIMMs
• Support for up to 2 GB of system memory
It means that you can add 1 gb ram chip to your current system.
You can add only 2gb of ram.
so you can purchase a 1 gb ram chip & add it to your system.
