burn cd but can't dvd on xp
hi folks,
my old Dell Dimension 8400 has a 16X DVD+/-RW drive/burner.
it can burn CD-Rs with any difficulty, but unable to do so for DVD-Rs. I use Roxio application and when I try to burn to a DVD the disk gets denied showing message insert new disc or the disk is dirty, should i try another dvd drive
Any suggestions ?
Re: burn cd but can't dvd on xp
heyy buddy why you stick around with Roxio. make a chance for Ashampoo and Nero?
Ashampoo is similar to Nero, but will never expire.
If the drive is damaged, get a fresh one compatible for the device
Re: burn cd but can't dvd on xp
dude... try this options
1. Update the drive firmware from Dell.
2. Try DVR-Rs made by both HP and Memorex. (The drive will burn CD-Rs made by HP.)
3. Uninstall Roxio and then reinstall.
4. Try different application - Deepburner.
Re: burn cd but can't dvd on xp
it occurs when a burner goes fatal. There are 2 different lasers, the DVD part usually goes bad first.
Go into Device Manager find the burner> right click> Uninstall, then restart.
If that doesn't work try this little script:

Also note most Dell burners are specially made OEM versions...
New burners are cheap at about $25, figure out if you need SATA or IDE.
