C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe is missing
I am getting a following error message saying - "C:\WINDOWS\System32\cmd.exe is missing". I thought it might be some memory issue so I tried to install and run memtest. But it says the system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications and tells to select Close for terminating an application. What should I do to terminate the whole problem ?....Plz help
Re: C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe is missing
This error message can occur if the following files are missing from \WINDOWS\System32:
- Config.nt
- Autoexec.nt
- Command.com
Check whether these files are present there.
If these are not present, then expand them from the install CD and copy them to \WINDOWS\System32. you can find them on the CD in the \I386 folder as:
Config.nt_
autoexec.nt_
command.co_
Re: C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe is missing
- open Windows Explorer
- select Tools > Folder Options > View tab.
- check 'Show hidden files and folders'
- uncheck 'Hide protected'
