ms project --Gantt chart based on Actual %
hiii alll, plss help
We had to convert a pdf file into MS Project. We have typed out everything in MS Project. The following are the points we need clarification on:
1. There are entries for Early Start, Early finish, Planned start and Planned finish (dates) and Planned and actual percentage. (We are getting Gantt charts based on planned %, but we require the Gantt chart bar to be based on Actual %)
2. There are tasks which we have starting & ending on same date. The Gantt chart bar we get is for early start/ early finish, but what we require is Planned start/ planned finish.
3. We know what are the critical items from the pdf file. But how do we mark so in the MS Project file?
Have attached one page of the pdf file so that you can get a better idea. Please reply even if u can clear only one point....
Thanks,
sithara
Re: ms project --Gantt chart based on Actual %
Project Requests do not appear in a timeline gantt.
Projects themselves will and in PPM6 it will be in the Executive tab. Select the view you want from the "More Views" list - or create one which meets your parameters and then switch format to Timeline Gantt. I suggest placing projects under a portfolio then creating a view that groups by parent project. This will give you what you are looking for.
also, the Timeline Gantt is based off of the Planned Start and Planned finish date in the Project Profile if there are no tasks in the project. If there are Tasks then the Timeline Gantt is based off of the earliest Task start, last Task finish.
A feature enhancement will be to show the Project Requests in the Executive tab Timeline Gantt.

Re: ms project --Gantt chart based on Actual %
I think you should used a WBS Chart Pro which is a Windows-based project management software application that is used to create and display projects using a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) Chart. A WBS chart displays the structure of a project showing how a project is organized into summary (phase) and detail levels. Using a WBS chart is a more intuitive approach to planning and displaying a project.

Iqbal, as per my knowledge PDF to MS project direct conversion ie.PDF=>MS Project, is not possible you need to go through anyone of middleware application, such as you need to check for the MS Project=>convertible application=>PDF or vice-versa, then only this is possible. so then please check for anyone of convertible application as per your requirement. Hope you understand your requirement.:thumbup1:

Re: ms project --Gantt chart based on Actual %
With a Microsoft Project 2007 Gantt chart, you can illustrate a project schedule by using graphical elements to represent tasks and the dependencies between them, and track how changes in one task affect the others.
Microsoft Office Gantt Chart
Also search in microsoft website for pdf they have an option or addins for PDF. u can even search from the given link as well.
