overclocking Asus P5q deluxe with 8Gb Ram
I have my Q9550 processor running at stock speed with an Asus P5Q Deluxe board and am having only 2gb or ram installed with the Operating System Windows Vista home premium. Now I want to upgrade to 8gb ram and wanted to know if I can make a stable overclock with it on my rig. So is there anyone who can tell me if I can do a stable clock with this 8gb ram. Thank you
Re: overclocking Asus P5q deluxe with 8Gb Ram
It is not recommended to overclock with more than 2 sticks of ram because the with more sticks the more voltage is required. With 2 sticks of 2g you usually are at the manufacturers maximum specs. YOu might get it done but you will need Highend , PSU and Ram.
Re: overclocking Asus P5q deluxe with 8Gb Ram
There is no reason to get 8GB RAM unless you are doing like heavy video encoding or something... just in games, they will not use 8GB of ram.
Also, the overclock will likely be less stable because the motherboard then has to supply double the voltage for the ram that it did before! Still, i reckon it would be stable at 3.8ghz..
Can you tell me/us what ram speed, voltage, timings etc you have and are possibly getting?

What type of RAM? DDR800?
I would've thought 4gb was sufficient for virtually most applications/games. Adding more ram doesn't actually speed your computer up, it allows you to keep more files open without slowing down.
