Cannot get 5.1 output using Optical SPDIF
I have a Philips Home Theater with 5.1 channel audio output and XPS 630i. But It is not delivering tha 5.1 output when I play any dvd movies or games that are connected to Optical SPDIF using the integrated audio. I have tried many 5.1 compatible dvd's but none has given the 5.1 output. What can I do to get the 5.1 output for the speakers?
Re: Cannot get 5.1 output using Optical SPDIF
Which media player do you use to play the dvd's? have you tried with different media players?
And what operating system are you using?
Re: Cannot get 5.1 output using Optical SPDIF
To set the SPDIF options
- From the Realtek audio control panel, click the SPDIF button
- Click the options button to change your SPDIF out settings
- Click the exit button to exit
Have a look to see if there is a box labeled digital output only and see if that is ticked or not. If not, then tick it.
I would have a look in the options to make sure it is enable or set to the config that you want.
Hope this helps.
Re: Cannot get 5.1 output using Optical SPDIF
Go into the ffsdhow audio decoder config, and under Codecs set the decoder for the relevant formats your receiver supports to S/PDIF (usually AC3 and DTS).
Since you cannot really output any other format through S/PDIF, you may reencode the rest using the settings under Output. Basically just check the AC3 under output formats and the checkbox right below it, and set the bitrate according to what your receiver supports.
You may also consider disabling the Mixer filter too.

Have you installed the latest audio drivers? You have set up the 5.1 speaker system from your audio drivers control panel or from the windows sound control panel?
