What is aawservice.exe, how to disable it
aawservice.exe pops up every 5-10 minutes since I have installed Ad-Aware 2007 Free. It irritates me very much. I wonder why this service is running all the time with Ad-Aware. What service is this? It seems some kind of unnecessary service for me as it does not have any real time monitoring. So I tried to disable this service but then Ad-Aware won't work.

Re: What is aawservice.exe, how to disable it
Since you are using the Free version, you can switch the service to Manual:
http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/uploa...1189651925.gif
- Start > Run
- Type "services.msc"
- "Ad-Aware 2007 Service" will be at or close to the top of the list
- Right click > Startup Type > Properties
- Change "Startup Type" to "Manual"
- Click Apply and OK
- Close Services

Remember, you will have run "services.msc" to start and then stop "aawservice.exe" before and after each scan, or to check for either new Definitions or for Program Updates, which you may find a bit of a hassle - your choice.
Re: What is aawservice.exe, how to disable it
- Click Start - Run, type in MSCONFIG and then click OK - "Startup" tab.
- Uncheck all entries that are associated with Lavasoft Ad-Aware.
- Click Apply - OK - Do Not Restart.
- Click Start - Run, type in SERVICES.MSC and then click OK.
- Expand the window so you can see and read the list more clearly.
- Double-click all entries that are associated with Lavasoft Ad-Aware. That will open a new window.
- Change the setting from "Automatic" to "Disabled" and then click Apply.
- Restart your computer.
Re: What is aawservice.exe, how to disable it
If you're that bothered you can set the service to be started manually, but if you try to use ad-Aware without starting the service then it wouldn't work.
Re: What is aawservice.exe, how to disable it
This workaround has solved the problem for me in Windows XP:
- Open the Services Management Console (Click Start, Run, type in "services.msc" without the quotes, click OK).
- Find "Ad-Aware 2007 Service" on the list and double-click it.
- For the Startup Type, choose "Manual". Click OK and close the Services window.
The program aawservices.exe will no longer start at Windows startup, but will auto-load as needed whenever you run Ad-Aware 2007.
It will remain running after you close Ad-Aware 2007, but you can safely kill it from the Windows Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del, Processes tab).
Worked for me, let me know how it works for you. Even you Vista-infected lot.
