Card Reader Safe Removel Icon, Advice Needed

Hi, i've just installed a card reader and have it set for optimize for quick removel but i still get the safely remove icon in my system tray.

I've read that if it's set for optimize for safe removal i should not get this icon showing, it's just a pain as by force of habit i've always safely removed USB flash drives and if i get the wrong drive letter i have to restart my computer to use the card reader again.

Is this normal as most people have told me my card reader drive letters should not show up when i click on the safely remove icon or cause the icon to appear with the settings i've chosen, thanks for any help.

hi,
what kind of "usb stick" are you using? does the USB stick appear as a "Drive" in Windows Explorer? if it does, right click on it and select Eject. then remove the usb stick.

Don't use the Safely Remove Hardware when you pull the card out. Find the drive in Windows Explorer. Right click & select Properties. Select the Hardware tab. Select the appropriate drive. Click on the Properties button. Select Policies tab. Check Optimize for Quick Removal.

I think it depends upon the operating syatem in which you are working.
Some operating systems, even if you have optimize for safe removal, gives initial warning before performing the action whereas some operating systems directly performs actions after you have set to safe removal....

Hi, sorry for the delay in replying, i've checked under windows explorer and device manager and all my card slots are optimized for quick removal.

If i plug a USB flash drive into the card readers USB port i can safely stop and remove it with out stopping the whole card reader, so it's ok, but just wondered why all the card slots drives show up under the safely remove icon, as stopping them shuts the whole card reader down.

I think it's probably because of whats been suggested, that it's my Windows XP Home OS, but at least i can now stop and remove my USB flash drive with out stopping the whole card reader, thanks for all your help and reply's.
