Memory on Compaq Presario R3000
Originally RAM is 256 MB on the Compaq Presario R3000
Is it possible to increase the RAM, want to buy more and how to install it. By removing the hatch below the microphone, there is no card slot in it? In the report of Everest it is noted 2 slot, on the microphone I can see that slot.
If the memory is soldered and of 256 MB, that put it in the slot as a free memory card and how, 256, 512, 1024 MB? To make the micro more efficient.
Re: Memory on Compaq Presario R3000
You must already know what type of RAM you need: SDRAM, DDR1 ... after that 256 or 512 MB
To find the type of ram, use the software CPU-Z.
Re: Memory on Compaq Presario R3000
Good, if you do not see that at the bottom, it is highly likely that the second is under the keyboard, and for this it usually comes in plastic above the keyboard, sometimes even break a screw below the pc if it does not come with a logo.
otherwise, R3000 is the Athlon and DDR1 memory only ...
as to make it more efficient, 512MB or 1GB enough (depend on price), but if it is to make it more efficient, we must often turn to the hard disk, if it is an old 4200 rpm, both move to a higher level.
Re: Memory on Compaq Presario R3000
On the other hand invest too much time on this kind of configuration, it is perhaps not so interesting as that.
And for the ram, add 512 MB in the space below.
Re: Memory on Compaq Presario R3000
So I dismantled the keyboard to see the original memory card. The door below is therefore not to access the free slot. So this is what gives me the report (part of EVEREST):
Computer:
Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2
Motherboard: Hewlett-Packard Presario R3000 (PB886EA # ABF)
Processor: Intel Celeron, 2800 MHz
Chipset of the motherboard: ATI Mobility Radeon 9100 IGP
Storage: ST94019A hard drive (40 GB, 5400 RPM, Ultra-ATA/100)
Optical Drive: TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R2512
Memory: 2GB SDRAM 3.3V (2 memory slots)
With that, perhaps you can advise me on good memory card to use and how.
For HDD I had also planned to change it.

No need to leave the card 256 MB
Re: Memory on Compaq Presario R3000
Thank you all for your responses.
In conclusion:
- I leave the card 256 MB
- I bought a 1 GB (CORSAIR SO-DIMM DDR PC2700 - 1GB 333MHz - CAS 2.5 - Value - VS1GSDS333) card that I put in the slot. (No compatibility problem with the 2 cards)
