Re: Cannot Change IE homepage
Try to download Ad-Aware a free spyware remover. Once downloaded run the software to remove the spyware and it should take care of the problem. Alternatively, try search for a removal tool for EZ Finder. Sometimes you can find a specific removal tool for the IE plug in.
Good Luck
Re: Cannot Change IE homepage
Have you tried disabling your internet security provider? My Norton Antivirus had a home page protection enabled that blocked all home page changes without notification. Checking your settings on that might help.
Re: Cannot Change IE homepage
Try these program-specific fixes to unlock your homepage~
- ZoneAlarm Firewall:
- Recent 6.5xx Free versions of this firewall will lock your homepage, with no option to unlock it. The workaround is to reboot into 'Safe Mode', and to change your Homepage there. Alternatively, you can download earlier or later versions of ZA Free from here. Reboot.
- Spybot S&D:
- Open Spybot>Mode>Advanced Mode>Tools>IE tweaks. Uncheck the 2 boxes next to the entries that begin "Lock IE..." Reboot
- SpywareBlaster:
- Open SpywareBaster>Tools>Misc. IE Settings
- Uncheck the box next to "Disable the IE homepage settings..." Reboot.
- Ad-Aware/Ad-Watch:
- Paid versions of Ad-Aware include Ad-Watch which blocks changes. Temporarily disable it:
- Right-click on the Ad-Watch icon in the system tray.
- Turn off (red cross) "automatic".
- Change your home page.
- Click "Accept" to the Ad-Watch alarm.
- Webroot's Spy Sweeper:
- Click on Options > Program Options and uncheck "load at windows startup".
- On the left click "shields" and then uncheck everything there.
- Uncheck "home page shield".
- Uncheck "automatically restore default without notification".
- Other Security Programs:
- We are seeing reports that other security suites- particularly those downloaded from one's ISP- have the abilty to lock one's Homepage. You might want to contact your ISP about this possibility, and how to fix it. Alternatively, try the Generic Fix below:
- Special Case:
Re: Cannot Change IE homepage
Start > Run...
Type regedt32 and hit enter. This starts the Registry editor.
Go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
You can change that value here of the homepage.
I'm curious also, after changing and hitting apply, if you click on the Home button, does it bring you to your new page, or continue to load the old one?
