User account Disappeared, Registry hacked
Hi,
I have picked up a registry hack.. Grrrrrrrrrr
My user account has disappeared and I am unable to access my profile folder in Documents & Settings... I get access denied.
I hope someone can help me repair the Registry and remove the little pesky program or virus.
I have run all virus scans and nothing has been detected.
I am using XP Home.
Thanks
Re: User account Disappeared, Registry hacked
If you are getting that on welcome screen, then press ctrl+alt+del to get the oldstyle login and it will work on Pro but cannot say if it works on Home version of OS. You will have to take ownership to do that as well. For this you can get plenty of resources when searched on google. After that restart in Safe Mode and log into the Admin account and then create a new user account with Admin privileges and then restart normally. Incase the old user profile is corrupted, then you have to migrate the documents and settings to the new account. Check below for instance:

Re: User account Disappeared, Registry hacked
I managed to reclaim control of my documents file through Take ownership command, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT HELP...however I still need to find and remove the Trojan, I think it is "server.exe" file. Any Ideas how to find and remove. I don't mind paying for good removal tool if I was sure it would work.

You can run your antivirus in safe mode and if that doesnt work, then dowbload the below antimalware and then install it and then update and then run it. You can even try to run it in safe mode if that doesnt work in normal mode.
