IE7 error message: Navigation to the webpage was canceled
I am using Windows Vista, Internet Explorer 7, and Google for web searches.
For about a week now, when I try to go to some web sites, I get an
about/blank page with an error message: "Navigation to the webpage was
canceled". At that point, any action that I take results in IE7 ceasing to
work, and I have a hard time shutting it down.
This is a new problem, and I cannot figure out how to fix it. Last week I
ran a Windows Update, and several of the updates were for IE7. I also
installed the newest version of Google Earth, which I uninstalled but that
didn't fix the problem. So I suspect that one of the recent Windows Updates
may be the culprit.
Has anyone else experienced this problem, or has a solution?
TIA,
Halsey
Re: IE7 error message: Navigation to the webpage was canceled
Hi,
Click start and type "Internet Explorer", one of the menu entries will be to
load it with no add-ons. See if running in this mode resolves the issue. If
so, then you need to disable add-ons that load with IE (this can be found
under tools/manage add-ons) as one of them is not agreeing with your system.

Same problem.....receving this error message and having to use task manager to stop it.....irritating as all get out!
From Microsoft: "you may experience a problem when you visit some Web pages that are in different Internet Explorer security zones. When the problem occurs, you receive a message that resembles the following:
Navigation to the webpage was canceled
This problem occurs if the navigation causes Protected Mode settings to change from On to Off. You can determine which Internet Explorer security zone a Web page is in by looking at the status bar at the bottom of the Internet Explorer 7 window.
This problem occurs because Internet Explorer 7 switches Protected Mode settings when certain Web pages are configured in the Trusted Sites area of the Security tab of the Internet Options dialog box. By default, Protected Mode is set to Off for Web sites that are configured in the Trusted Sites area"
Go here for the fix:

Microsoft has a "Fix it for me"
( click the Fix this problem link. Then click Run in the File Download dialog box, and follow the steps in this wizard)
Worked for me, hope it works for you,
