External hard drive wont initiate in vista
I bought a new hard drive and cloned the old one to the new and put it in my laptop and all is well. I put the old hd in an external case and hooked up to usb. Windows will see the hd but it will not let me initiate it. The old hd is sata 100gb, lenovo hd with security chip. I disabled the hd security, but i think this may still be causing the issue. Not sure, still learning computers.
I also put the old hd back in the laptop to see if it worked and it did, so i know the hd is not bad and the external case works as i tried it with a different hd and it worked.

All you need to do to get full access is to click on the file click on the properties, then click on edit of your computer name from the list, (the one other then the system) click on edit and then a load of tick boxes should come up and click on full control and you then can delete the file. Ever since i deleted the file, my computer reconises everything, even my ipod!

Make sure you have a compatible A/C adaptor for the same.

I just tried that and it didnt help, but I can see the HD (which I could before adding ac power) under start, right click on computer, manage, disk management. It sees the hd and prompts me to intiaialize the disk. When I click ok I get the error, data error (cyclic redundancy check). Any ideas?
