Impossible to Format Vista
Good evening, I appeal to you because I have a problem since yesterday:
Having tired of Vista, I decided to format to pass under XP. I tried 2 different CD (XP SP1 and XP SP3).
I start the process of formatting, and after a few minutes, an error message The message like:
This is an error message, if this is the first time you see, please restart your PC ... Etc
I do not understand ...
For info, I have a Toshiba P300-1AP with vista home premium of origin.
CPU: Cor 2 Dio P8400, 3GB RAM, HD3650.
Thank you in advance.
Re: Impossible to Format Vista
I advise you to use system rescue software. You boot from the CD and with it you can access your hard drive and format, to recover the partition that serves as a restore point that must surely exist on your Data drive.
Re: Impossible to Format Vista
Give us more indication of the error message. Is there a message like "Stop 0xxxxxx?
If yes, give us the message (the line that begins with "Stop")
Also on what you do when you have this error: You have managed to boot on the XP CD, select the partition, but it freezes when formatting?
Quick format or full?
I still advise you to keep Vista (legal version) instead of XP (pirate?) Because you will have to go fishing with drivers for your system.
Re: Impossible to Format Vista
In fact, originally, I have 2 partitions, Vista on (C) and Data on (E).
I put 2-3 on tips to save Data, it will not be affected by the formatting ?

XP is not a pirate, is an official at the base.
I will note the error message and post again on this topic.
I have not been able to select the partition, there is an error during a file copy.
Re: Impossible to Format Vista
So, as far as the error message:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your PC ... etc
STOP : 0x0000007B (0xF78D663C, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
Re: Impossible to Format Vista
I know 3 solutions to this problem:
a) turn off AHCI in the BIOS and keep in IDE compatibility mode (you lose the benefit of NCQ mode in this case).
b) instruct the Intel driver with the F6 key (you must have a floppy drive).
c) to incorporate the Intel driver CD of XP with a tool like nlitement.
Re: Impossible to Format Vista
The computer is finally formatted, everything was almost fine, thank you gilles.
Only small problem at one of the drivers, that of the wireless card on the Toshiba site is in maintenance, and I found nowhere else.
It is an Intel Shirley Peak (Shiloh) 1x2 TM WiFi Wireless PCI Adapter.
Re: Impossible to Format Vista
You must be able to retrieve it on the site of Intel.I did not find exactly the reference that you gave me but I think may be you can find it on intel site.
