By definition disc directly connected to the network and accessible from any computer connected to the network is a SIN.
NAS Network Attached Storage - Network Attached Storage. No need to feature exotic (web server or other) to a network drive can be regarded as NAS.
Now the difference with "server storage" can be considered a storage server is an entity dedicated to storing data on the network where you can install one or more hard drives. A kind of MiniPC utlra simplified the task entirely dedicated to data storage and sometimes accepting additional functions (web server, client P2P, etc). The storage server will often eg a management interface (which does not have a simple external drive).
Often storage servers are sold without disk, the user to install one or those of his choice.
The external drive will be independent and unique, the storage server will allow the management of one or more drives with optional RAID solutions
Thank you for your answers. Now I know what is NAS. and difference between External Hard Drive and Storage Server.
