card reader problem
I have a new card reader which is compatable with USB 1 and 2. When I insert an SD card it works fine on my laptop which has Vista Basic but does not work on my desktop pc which has XP. Also it works fine on both computers if I insert a compact flash card.

It is very difficult to find if the issue is because of generic XP driver for USB or something specific to your card. If it is working fine on Vista that means the Card and Card reader both are fine. Obviously the problem is with your XP itself. So insert the card, connect card reader with XP and open Device Manager. Is there anything with yellow mark in the Device Manager? By the way which type USB Controller do you have?

Hi - thanks for your reply. When I go into Device Manager and click on "Generic USB SD reader USB device" then on "Properties" - the device status says "this device is working properly"
Sorry I only have basic knowledge - where would I find what type of USB controller I have?
It says SiS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller
Underneath this it has
USB Composite device
USB Mass storage device
USB Root Hub
USB Printing support
I hope this is the right info.
Not that I'm aware of but I will try and check. Thanks for your help
