Suggestion to buy 4GB RAM
I have Gigabyte X38-DS4 and I am running Vista 64 bit. I am planning to buy 4 GB of RAM.
My question is: does it make sense to buy 4 x 1024 or should I go for 2 x 2048? In the first case, what I have to do is add 2 barrettes; whereas in the second case, I need to change my RAM.
Is there any difference?
Re: Suggestion to buy 4GB RAM
Everything depends on your current timings. 2GB RAM are struggling to hold down timings, sometimes flying. And hence suffers from the loss of performance.
Re: Suggestion to buy 4GB RAM
I'm 5-5-5-15 in 570Mhz (1140 instead of 1066) in Crucial BallistiX. If I take a kit 2 x 1024 with the same characteristics, could I keep the current perf then?
And as it does me to invest in a kit 2 x 1024, so is it a positive choice in all aspects (price and PERF).
Re: Suggestion to buy 4GB RAM
It seems to me that it will be more difficult to achieve a good frequency ram with 4 x 1 GB rather than 2 x 2 GB.
Re: Suggestion to buy 4GB RAM
I do not think you would have lost a lot of perf in 4 x 1GB and your portfolio would have preferred (even at the sight of the price of DDR2).
Example, I'm 4 x 1GB, CAS5 at 555 MHz, and stable under MemTest not really pushed to peak
