HELP! HP Pavilion dv6000 Windows XP
Hi, I just formatted me Vista laptop to XP, everything installed correctly except for 2 things:
1) My C:/ for some reason turned into D:/ (But that is not a big deal)
2) I can't install any video drivers! I have no Device Adapters in my Device Manager at all. How can my computer not recognize that I have a video card installed?

Right-click on My Computer, select Manage, then under the Storage option
select Disk Management.
Now in the right-hand pane right click on the drive that you want to
change the drive letter for and select Change Drive Letter and Paths.
Then click the Change button and pick a letter from the pull down list.

Try installing the drivers in Safe Mode.

Do you have the necessary XP drivers on your computer?
If not, visit
http://www.hp.com/country/us/en/welc...p.html#Support. Input
the full model number of your computer. (there are different flavors of
the DV6000).
Select WinXp as your operating system. Download and install the correct
drivers.

Sorry, but you can't do this. If you try, you'll get a message saying
"Windows cannot modiofy the drive letter of your system volume or boot
volume".
But if you were actually able to do this - changing the drive letter of the
system volume - it could have some rather severe side-effects. Any
registry references to the system drive's previous letter would be rendered
instantly invalid, and there would be pretty much no way to fix them.

There's another drive, such as a card reader on your system. You can only
fix this with a clean reinstall, taking care to remove or disable other
drives first.

You need to install the basic motherboard drivers and then the specific
hardware drvers. Normally, you have these on hand - on CD - before you
start, since the key hardware generally won't work after you do the basic XP
install.
You'll get all of these from the laptop manufacturer, but if they don't have
them, you will never get the laptop to work with XP. Some manufacturers
have not released XP drivers for systems that come with Vista.
So, go to the manufacturer's site and get the XP drivers. If you can't get
them, you pretty much need to shift back to Vista. If you absolutely can't
run Vista, you may need to choose another laptop.

Re: HELP! HP Pavilion dv6000 Windows XP
Do you mean "Display Adapters" vice "Device Adapters"? Evidently you have
video - what created the concern about video drivers?
Run msinfo32 - under Components select display for info regarding drivers
and card - or right click the desktop - select Settings and under display
check info.
