Can anyone tell if whether eSata Plug and Play under Windows XP or do we need to install any kind of software for it? What I mean to say is that does it act like a USB memory stick or something else? Thanks for any answers

Any system will be able to see any external hard drive that is connected to eSata as an internal drive. eSata controllers by default are configured as IDE drive and if the the drive is plugged or unplugged with the system running then the system will not see the change. A restart is required in this case and no drivers are need for the installation as well. Incase you install the drivers for the eSata controller and then configure it as a AHCI then you will be able to use the Plug and Play features.
Thanks for responding, I checked the manual for the eSATA controller and found out that we can eject the drive by going into the device manager. But what if you miss and uninstall the C: drive.
