Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E for VALID POP Server
I am using windows mail as my default email client since past couple of months. Now I have some problem either with Windows mail or my internet connection. Sometimes my internet connection drops automatically and later when I start Windows Mail and try sending or receiving email, I keep getting the said error for the next 10 minutes:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.virginbroadband.com.au', Server: 'mail.virginbroadband.com.au',
Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
I don’t have any idea how can I fix this? Somebody please help.

You should better check with your ISP or email provider if there server gets down at the period of time. Another reason for the error could be the Antivirus. Just make sure that email scanning features is disabled in the same. If you are using Norton or McAfee than you must just uninstall them completely from your system because they are very well know for creating problems with Windows mail.

The error you have mentioned above clearly states that you are unable to connect to the outbound server address listed. Most of the time, this prevents you from reaching the incoming server address as well. I have been through this error and after spending hours on internet I finally came to know this.
Re: Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E for VALID POP Server
Had a same problem after I disable the "Scan outbound messages" option in my avast! free antivirus program (on Vista computer). After I enable the option again, the error disappear,
Hopefully this helps someone
